My study of the human body began with my undergraduate studies at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada receiving an honors degree in Health Sciences and Kinesiology. I then came to the USA with the hopes of advancing my studies in health. I completed the Doctor of Chiropractic program and became board certified to practice both Chiropractic and Physiotherapy, followed by my completion of a Masters Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Upon graduation in December of 2006, I began my career under the tutelage of Dr. Thawer at Be Well Total Health. In an environment highly spirited with teamwork, dedication and excellence, a special relationship of coherence & cooperation developed amongst our Doctors. This relationship has resulted in a diverse mastermind of knowledge, skill and expertise that has tremendously benefited our patients.
Studying Chiropractic and Physiotherapy, Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine as well as Western Medicine has been a tremendous gift, as it empowers me to gather & integrate information across different disciplines. I believe that if any dis-ease or illness manifests in the body, there is always toxicity or deficiency that lies at the source of the problem. When causative factors of imbalance and dis-ease are removed, my observance of the body's majestic ability to heal is nothing short of breathtaking.
The approach at Be Well Total Health is centered on analyzing the body as a whole. I complete a detailed history, full orthopedic, neurological and physical exam, as well as postural and balance analysis. Adding to the clinical picture is a full Oriental Medicine evaluation and diagnosis. Gathering this pertinent information allows me to identify areas of blockage and interference so a treatment plan can be developed.
Physical Therapy modalities, Proprioceptive Rehabilitation and Balance Improvement techniques are the foundational steps to restore normal neuromuscular patterns, strengthen weak musculature and break up scar tissue that can create adhesions around joints. Additional technique systems may be utilized such as Sacro-Occipital Technique, Activator and Total Body Modification to further establish structural integrity, proprioceptive input and balance to the nervous system.
Each aspect is an integral part of being well. I believe the physical body needs to be rehabilitated and retrained to operate to the best of its ability after releasing old, adaptive patterns created in response to stress.
I create customized rehabilitative programs which include strengthening, stretching and balancing exercises, as well as make dietary, lifestyle and ergonomic modifications. My goals are not only centered around helping patients feel & BE better symptomatically, but to also restore balance and mobility for the long haul.
My commitment is to stand strong in the possibility of vibrant health for ALL, with love, enthusiasm & integrity. I look forward to seeing you soon and helping to guide you on your path to Be Well!
Yours in health,
Dr. Shilpa Agrawal, DC, MSOM, LAc.
